About Us
The NJ chapter of NACAW (National Association of Cuban American Women) was established in 1980 by a group of Cuban immigrant women to meet the needs of the Cuban exiles who were settling in Union City, NJ and the surrounding area in search of economic opportunity and political freedom following the Cuban Revolution of 1959. During the decades that followed, successive waves of immigration brought many other Hispanic groups into the area, resulting in a vibrant and diverse Latino culture in one of the most densely populated areas of New Jersey. It is this identity and culture that we seek to preserve, celebrate and support, with a particular emphasis on women and children.
